Cherry Blossoms, Waterfalls & Fresh Mountain Air: Myoko in Spring

Spring in Myoko feels like nature is waking up from a long winter sleep — and the transformation is spectacular.

While Tokyo’s cherry blossom season is short and crowded, Myoko’s sakura season lasts longer and feels far more peaceful. The pink petals line the rivers and create stunning reflections in Imori Pond, one of the most beautiful (and lesser-known) sakura spots in Niigata.

Cherry Blossom Viewing at Imori Pond Imori Pond is surrounded by around 1,500 cherry trees. In early to mid-April, the combination of pink blossoms, blue water, and the still-snowy peak of Mt Myoko creates one of the most photogenic scenes in the region.

Hiking to Naena Falls As the snow melts, hiking trails reopen. One of the most rewarding early-season hikes leads to Naena Falls — a powerful 55-metre waterfall that’s part of Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park.

Tulip Festivals & Flower Fields Spring also brings colourful tulip festivals and flower fields across the Myoko Plateau — perfect for gentle walks and photography.

Early Mountain Exploration For those who want to stretch their legs, the lower trails around Mt Myoko offer beautiful views without the heavy snow or summer crowds.

At Yuki Mebuki, spring is one of our favourite seasons. The guesthouse is surrounded by blooming trees, and our retro café becomes the perfect spot to plan your day over coffee and games.

Pro tip: Rent one of our cars and explore the hidden sakura spots along the back roads — you’ll often have them all to yourself.
